I was so excited to get your substack post in my email this morning. I have missed hearing from you though we have never met. I know in your last post you were talking about disconnecting a bit more from the Internet and it sounds like you have enjoyed some rich experiences over the last several months. I am happy for you!

I absolutely love Jane Austen’s Persuasion and it is up there as a favorite closely following Pride and Prejudice. I have St. Teresa of Avila’s The Way of Perfection in my TBR but after reading what you wrote, I may try Interior Castle before The Way of Perfection. I have seen you reference Elizabeth Goudge many times and enjoyed your reviews of her books. I wanted to try her books out. Do you have a recommendation on which book might be ideal for the first time reader of her work? As I read, I am finding it harder to read more contemporary literature as I need something a little more removed from current day life. I have found I enjoy reading books that take place pre 1950’s.

I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving and may you have a blessed Advent season and Christmas ahead! Blessings!

I absolutely loved this video! I was wondering where you were all these months:) The book interview with your brother was great as well. I love the deep and interesting books that you both read. As I always have a book list for Christmas, you certainly gave me new ideas for more. I was like you, I started reading through the whole Narnia Series this year. I have read books 1-4 so far. Question, Have you read any of the Arthur Ransome books? The Swallows and Amazon Series I think is something you would love. I discovered him on vacation in Maine when we went to an adorable bookstore in Blue Hill, Maine.

Merry Christmas to you and your family! Love the videos:)

Just a short thank-you for pointing my towards The Perilous Gard. I enjoyed it so much! The characters were inspiring and the fairy world sad and beautiful. Thanks for recommending it.

I've been meaning to read more Chesterton for ages but I haven't known quite where to begin, so your ranking is very helpful! Manalive also comes highly recommended by one of my family members so I think I'll start with that, and then maybe try his essay collection Tremendous Trifles, which my mother really enjoyed.

Also, best of luck with your dating adventures--I'm also hoping to find my Mr. Right, so going on more dates is my number one resolution for 2025!
