It’s time for a good, old-fashioned Disney World trip report. ✨ If you’ve caught my recent YouTube uploads, you’ll know I just got back from a family trip to Florida! We had a delightful time, and while there are plenty of vlogs to come, I thought it’d be fun to write up a quick recap with some photos for the blog.
You all know how much I love the wardrobe planning process of vacation prep! Before our departure I went through my closet to share where I get my dresses and film a packing vlog. So here’s what I ended up wearing where…
I spotted this Osa Johnson-esque dress on the Etsy shop “Mr. Water New York,” and it just spoke to me. It was ideal, complete with giraffe-print Minnie Ears, for the Animal Kingdom, which is where our trip began! We headed straight back to Pandora on arrival for what is possibly our favorite quick service on property, Satu’li Canteen. Many favorite Disney menu items have come and gone over the years, but the staples of a Na’vi lunch have remained: an ice cold night blossom from Pongu Pongu, a cheeseburger pod or tehlu “grub dog” (hot dog wrapped in dough from the kid’s menu), and a beautiful blueberry cream cheese mousse to finish it off.
We didn’t spend too long in the park because we wanted to enjoy the Chronos Club Level. Our first resort of the trip was Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs. That lovely aqua dress was not in the packing vlog because I ended up finding it at a Dillard’s we stopped at on the drive down - the brand was “Antonio Melani,” and it was in the sale section, $65 down from $200. Now that’s my kind of dress!
It was such a cute style not only for Coronado but also for Epcot. Belle had almost no line as we were passing through France, so I stopped by to say “Bonjour” and chat books. She invited me over to Beast’s Library and suggested we start a princess book club together. Seriously, that’s exactly what she said, it was the best meet and greet! Another fun stop on our World Showcase circuit was Mitsukoshi. You’ll know from my mini haul that the cat merch was hard to resist! 😸
Our main objective at Epcot was the brand new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! We were all up before 7 a.m. that morning and ready to try for the virtual queue on the app. We had four people trying for it on four different phones and managed to snag a spot pretty early in the morning. Without giving too much away, it is an extraordinary ride; think Space Mountain but on a whole new level. However, if you are even a little bit concerned about motion sickness on rides, I would advise you to prepare yourself. I read this piece from Blog Mickey and found it to be very helpful. I spent most of the ride focusing on not being sick and mentally visualizing the motion of the car to reassure my stomach, and I managed to make it out unscathed…but my mom, who generally doesn’t have problems on roller coasters, felt quite ill for quite a while afterwards. Then again my brothers were totally fine, and one of them ended up going back to Epcot to ride it again another day, so your mileage may vary!
From superheroes and the future to the world of fantasy…I wore this blue retro dress from Amazon (the brand was “Gown Town”) on our Magic Kingdom day. The style felt like Cinderella with a 1920s/30s vibe, super cute.
This was our first trip with the new Disney Genie+ system in place, and we were not fans. Compared to the old Fastpass+ system, it felt more complicated, way less flexible in terms of available rides and times, and of course to add insult to injury, you now have to pay for it. We only did it on one Magic Kingdom morning; we got up at 7 a.m. to see what we could book and ended up with a Splash Mountain “lightning lane” for around 10:30 a.m. By the time we were able to make a second “lightning lane” reservation, the only open times were for quite late in the day, and we weren’t planning on staying in the park that long…we wanted to get back and enjoy our resort!
We stayed one night at the Royal Palm Club Level which was a treat as always. I found a delicate floral dress on Etsy (also from “Mr. Waters New York!”) that had perfect Grand Floridian energy…it even matched the fresh flower bouquets in the hallways!
I always bring books on my kindle to enjoy during a relaxing-at-the-Grand-Floridian day (stay tuned for Friday’s new July reading vlog to hear more about the vacation reads!) - but I also loved just walking around the resort to see what was new. Big changes have been slowly happening in different corners of the Grand, and soon all the rooms at the resort will have a new look…
My room tour of the new aesthetic is already up, and overall, I’d say I like the new decor. Especially compared to other recent Disney resort room designs, the character elements felt reasonably restrained which I appreciated. I thought it still felt Grand. The dress I was wearing that day unintentionally matched the new color scheme! It was a last minute addition to my trip wardrobe line up from Amazon.
Did we go over to Hollywood Studios just to get some blue milk? Yes, yes we did. We also rode Star Tours because it only had a 10 minute wait! Overall the wait times were pretty rough because it was the middle of summer, but we did find a few random short lines here and there.
In the comments of my packing vlog, I got some guesses that this outfit was for either Saratoga Springs or Hoop De Doo Review…now I feel like I will have to wear it to Disney again someday, because those would both be great fits for this ‘fit. I ended up wearing it to the Wilderness Lodge and Frontierland! The blouse is by “Princess Highway” and is such a cute cut. Both blouse and skirt I found on ModCloth.
Another beloved quick service in my family is Colombia Harbor House - there’s plenty of air conditioned seating in the beautifully-themed rooms upstairs, but our favorite spot is on the bridge! The “Sea Captain Catch” sandwich was delicious. Sadly the donut atop the “Happy Haunts” blueberry milk shake was stale, but the shake itself was very tasty. Reminded me of a purple version of the Galaxy’s Edge blue milk - a very fruity and light and frothy shake.
Last outfit! I wore this yellow gingham dress (also from Gown Town on Amazon) at the Wilderness Lodge on our departure day. There are lots more stories and reviews from the trip, but I’ll save them for the vlogs! I’m thinking I will try to do a trip vlog episode upload on the second Friday of each month, just as I do my reading vlog on the last Friday of the month. Hope you’re all having a magical summer!
