In the Garden & Around the Farmhouse
Welcoming spring with a seedling haul and "slow living" vlog.
On clear evenings, the sunset fills up my garden in such a slow and lovely way. It feels like a step-by-step, deliberate ceremony, somehow reminding me of the little ritual I follow when I make tea. First I draw the water, then fill the kettle, pick out a pretty tea pot and cup, spoon out the tea leaves, wait for them to steep in the boiling water.
When the sun sets, first the golden light outlines this leaf, then that blade of grass, paints delicate shifting shadows from the vines and tulips swaying in the wind or makes long, steady brushstrokes of purple twilight from the tall tree trunks, sweeping them imperceptibly across the ground. Finally the sun withdraws behind the distant hills and everything is merged into quiet, after-sunset shades, leaving the same sort of sadness I feel when the pot is empty and the last bit of tea in my cup has gone cold. But there’s always another pot of tea and another sunset to come. 😉
There are, of course, pots of tea in today’s new Friday upload, as well as garden planning and a seedling haul/chat. I have enjoyed a few sunsets in my garden this spring, although they will be much nicer when it’s a bit warmer, when I’ve got my hammock up, and when I’ve got my planting a bit further along. I have set up a raised bed this year, and I’m very excited to see how my gladiolus, freesias, lupines and dahlias like all the nice soil and compost and loam I’ve been preparing for them. This is only my second year of gardening, so I am still very much an amateur. I would love to hear tips or spring plans from any of you gardeners out there!
Tell me about how you’ve been welcoming spring down in the comments. 😊 Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Transport Lilly of the Valley plants around the yard last year , glad they are doing well this year
