Happy Friday, friends! I thought weād take a virtual trip to Disneyās Grand Floridian as an early Valentineās Day treat. š Of course, no Disney World day would be complete without a Disney dessertā¦
I was intrigued to see something called a āFlamingo Cakeā listed on the app under the Gasparilla Island dessert menu, so I took the short walk over from our room in Sago Cay past the marina to check it out. It was everything one could wish from something called a āFlamingo Cakeā - not just a cupcake, but a proper, small, gourmet gateau, iced to perfection with bright pink Flamingo feathers.
Admittedly it was also priced like a small cake rather than a cupcake - I think it was around $8 - but it was so rich, it was ideal for sharing. I couldnāt even tell where the tropical mousse ended and the vanilla cake began, the whole cake inside was just very light with a lovely passion fruitiness. It would be nice if the mini gateaus became a permanent fixture on the Gasparilla menu - it feels perfect for the Grand - but alas, looking on the online menu today, I no longer see any proper, sophisticated mini cake offerings.
Last summerās Flamingo Cake has me remembering other beautiful pink and red sweets that Iāve had at Disney. One of my favorite Main Street Bakery cupcake memories was from a Valentineās Day spent at the Magic Kingdom. It was a lovely blue sky day, perfect for munching on a red velvet cupcake and watching the clouds float by over Cinderellla Castle. I still have that plastic heart balloons decoration; itās decorating my desk right now.
Another dessert that springs to mind is the stunning rose chocolate mousse from Amoretteās Patisserie at Disney Springs. I thought I would just take a quick look and maybe snap a picture of the case at Amoretteās that day, but as soon as I saw the perfect little rose, I found myself getting in line. š
To bring us back around to the Grand, thereās possibly no more classic pink dessert at Disney than 1900 Park Fareās wonderful strawberry soup. In the past itās always been part of the evening club level appetizer selection at least once a week, I hope they never change that. I have tried making it at home, and it came out pretty well!
Will you be making, baking or buying any special desserts for Valentineās Day? Let me know in the comments and tell me your favorite Disney dessert memory! š°
I am not a big Disney fan but this does look like such fun and the treats are gorgeous!
